Hue in a day
Hue is a place that a lot of people don't spend a lot of time in. However, there's a lot to do there and most backpackers will pass it when they do the Hai Van pass. If you have some time to spend here or are wondering what you can do here, have a read below.
Wander the eerie abandoned waterpark
You may need to bribe your way into the waterpark to get past security but it is well worth it. The whole place is eerie with no one around. It's full of graffiti, the aquariums are full of smashed glass and you can climb on the old slides. You can also find a stadium where you can climb over the fallen trees and sit in peace where once people would have crowded to view a marine show.

Rent a bike and ride the Hai Van Pass
If you're going to Hue from Da Nang or Hoi An, your going to be driving such a scenic route as featured on Top Gear. There are a lot of bike rental companies that offer a package where they transfer your luggage to the next destination whilst you ride for the day. On your map, there will be stop offs like the Lang Co Beach and Elephant Springs. The views on this drive are amazing and not to miss!
Visit the Royal Tombs
In Vietnam, there's plenty an opportunity to see old relics but the royal tombs in Hue are impressive structures. The recommended tombs are Khai Dinh, Tu Duc and Mihn Mang tombs. You can hire a guide when you're there or just explore by yourself.
Explore the Imperial Citadel
The Imperial City was where the old emperors would have lived and done all of their business that emperors do. Although most of it was destroyed by the French and American forces, you can still see the city gates and the stunning restored halls. It's a lovely ground to walk around and easy to access by just walking around the moat that surrounds it.
