A Bangin' Time in Bangkok
ACCOMODATION: WILD ORCHID VILLA
DAYS SPENT IN BANGKOK: 2
After 18 hours of flying, I was picked up from the airport as arranged by Intro Travel for my Thai Intro tour. It is quite easy to just get a Grab into the city or get a taxi from the airport. The things I did in Bangkok were all arranged by the tour that I had booked on to but it would be easy to get to all the places or arrange activities on your own in this post. I only decided to do a tour to ease me in to travelling as I had never done anything like this before. I also only did 2 days here so we squeezed as much as we could in the time that we had.

Views from Baiyoke Sky Hotel bar |
Baiyoke Sky Hotel Bar
This was one of the many sky bars in Bangkok but as we were backpacking, this one was great as it was affordable and had pretty decent cocktails. We were able to go outside, enjoy the views of the busy city and take loads of pictures for our travel memoirs. The deck circles the building so you can walk around and enjoy views in all directions. If it gets cold, you can sit inside for a drink where you get table service too.
Wat Arun |
River Cruise
It's easy to go up to the dock and take a boat ride down the Chao Phraya river. On your journey you will get to see many temples backed on to the river, all beautiful in their own way and standing out with the gold design. You can feed the many fish in the river so take some bread with you whilst you enjoy discovering the city from a different perspective.
Temples
There are so many temples that you will stumble upon just by walking around the streets of Bangkok. Why not get blessed by a monk and fully immerse yourself in the Thai culture. Everyone is so friendly and it wouldn't be hard arranging to do so. Some recommendations are Wat Arun, which has beautiful pillars that stand out from the other temples or Wat Pho, the temple of the Reclining Buddha. It's so big, you can't fit it in a picture! Just remember to cover your legs and shoulders when visiting the temples to respect Buddha.

Khao San Road |
Khao San Road
A trip to Bangkok is not complete without visiting this famous road of souvenir shops, restaurants, massage parlours and bars. Obviously, you must be careful when drinking the famous Thailand buckets and drink in moderation but before you know it, you'll be in one of the clubs dancing the night away and if you're brave enough - eating a tray of bugs, a scorpion or even a tarantula!

Me and a very hungover Fay at our cooking class |
Try a cooking class
Thai food one of the best cuisines so why not try your hand at making a few dishes yourself. At May Kaidee's Cooking School, you can learn to make TomYam Soup, Pad Thai and Massaman Curry all from fresh ingredients. It's a great way to learn to cook and you get to keep the recipes so when you finally go home, you can make them and pretend that you're back in Thailand all over again. There are a lot of cooking school's around and you will see them advertised everywhere. This is just the one that I had done and had a great time with our chef so I would recommend.

This is just a handful of things you can do in Thailand. This was my itinerary for 1 and a half days worth of exploring but if you have longer you could get yourself a Thai Massage or even explore the Chatuchak Market. It's a huge city with the friendliest locals and a lot to offer.
